Powder Metal Gears
Product Overview
Powdered metal gears have inherent advantages over gears cut by conventional methods. Compared to machining, the powdered metal process is often more efficient in terms of cost, materials, and energy. Gears manufactured from powdered metal have highly accurate tooth profiles, and can incorporate innovative design features to reduce stresses and increase strength. In addition, the natural porosity of powdered metal gears lowers vibration and noise.
Keystone produces a wide variety of gears, including spur, bevel, pump, internal, face, spline, and helical gears.

Secondary operations include machining, grinding, shaving, sanding, honing, heat treatment, and tumbling (for burr removal). Gears and pinions are also components used in our assemblies.
Powder Forged Gears
Product Overview
With the ever-increasing expense of machining, the powder forging process offers an efficient, cost-effective alternative to wrought gears. At equal density (7.84 g/cc), powder forged gears perform better than wrought parts.
Exceptional rolling contact and bending fatigue properties enable powder forged gears to undergo conventional rolling, honing, shaving, and grinding finishing techniques, producing accurate tooth profiles and a quality surface finish. Powder forged gears as burnished on the tooth profile have also proven acceptable in transfer case applications without any additional secondaries performed on the OD tooth profile. As a replacement for wrought gears, both rigorous testing and real-world applications have proven powder forging capable of meeting the impact load, tooth load, and thrust load demands placed on heavy duty gears.
Keystone, a pioneer in the use of powder forging, produces powder forged spur gears and helical gears of the highest strength and quality.
